ABOUT ME

Home renovation and interior design is my lifelong passion.  I grew up in a family of architects and artists. After studying Studio Art followed by a 10 year career in textile design, I shifted my focus to home design.  My husband and I first renovated our own home which brought us a great sense of accomplishment and a feature article in the L.A. Times. We were inspired to take on a real estate investment project, a distressed, adorable 1920's bungalow.  As ModOp Design Inc, we went onto renovate over twenty homes, becoming known for our high level of quality, style and respect for the home's character.  As I acquired the hands-on experience of renovating, interior design and staging of our projects, I began sharing my expertise with people looking to make updates to their home. I love helping clients achieve their goals in order to enjoy an improved quality of life in their living space.

I’m grateful to help clients redesign, update and transform their homes.  Most people share with me that they were overwhelmed in the early planning stages and didn’t know where to start.  The thing is, it doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to tackle this endeavor on your own. You don’t have to stay stuck or avoid starting. Imagine if instead, you could have someone guide you and give you the peace of mind that your home improvements will be less overwhelming and the best they can be.  I enjoy offering accessible, flexible, and affordable interior design.

QUICK FACTS

  • Before home investment projects and interior design, I was a textile designer.   I sold one-of-a kind hand-painted prints to home decór and apparel companies such as William Sonoma, Anthropologie, Guess, Vince, Trina Turk, Quicksilver and Target.

  • My paternal grandfather was architect Welton Becket, who's firm designed many of LA's iconic mid-century buildings such as the Capitol Records building, the Music Center in DTLA, the Cinerama Dome Theater in Hollywood and the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

  • My maternal grandmother, Louise Currie Good was an actress in the 1940's.  She often had the only female role, as a heroine in films such as Captain Marvel.  She moved to Italy in the 1960's, exported Italian antiques and moved back to Los Angeles to open a showroom and pursue interior design later in life.

  • Both in Los Angeles and while traveling, I seek out home tours, historic architecture, museums, artisanal goods, vintage treasures and botanical gardens. I gain inspiration from those influences and often incorporate them into design projects.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

I've had the pleasure of working with Alex on two homes. The first home we purchased from her and her husband in 2021. They had poured a ton of effort into renovating it from the ground up. Everything about the home feels warm, welcoming and intentional. Alex takes your desires and needs into account, unlike other designers I've worked with who prioritize form over function. The most wonderful thing about working with Alex, aside from her aesthetic intuition, is her genuine kindness. She's someone you can count on and trust. She works tirelessly to design the home of your dreams. We were so happy with her work that we asked her to handle the interior design of another home. It turned out wonderfully, especially given the budget she was working with. I am so impressed by her abilities as a designer and can't wait to work with her again.

-Nataly Dawn, Lead Singer of Pamplemousse

The kitchen in our 100+ year old Craftsman home was in 1920’s/30’s condition. It likely had been oddly modified in the early days and was a maze of walls. Since deciding to make changes to our kitchen, we chose to work with Alexandra. She had done consulting work for our family in the past.  Throughout our kitchen renovation process, Alex has brought key vendors to the mix, making smart decisions on who would be on our team and what we needed to accomplish.  She has a clear and easy way of communicating her vision with the team. Alex would regularly check in, stay involved if questions or issues arose and would stop by to see progress of the project. I recommend working with Alex. We have been referring Alexandra Becket Design to quite a few people, especially after they see our kitchen. It was a pleasure working with Alex. She is respectful, thoughtful and strong. She encouraged smart decisions from us and nudged us along the way, which was greatly appreciated.
